So don't ever trust a GPS. Our next destination was the Redwoods. It had us get off 80 and take some dinky roads. We were to head into Oregon then drop back down in California. The problem was that it was late at night. And we were on roads that we didn't see people for hours at a time. I was worried we'd run out of gas. Turns out, in Oregon you can't pump your own gas. Or at least in areas we were in. So it was 1 am and we were in the middle of no where with full service gas stations. None of which were open. So we switched drivers and I drove with sarah sitting on shotgun. We had less than a half of tank of gas and 80 miles until services. Well I had driven for a few hours and the needle was far lower than before. At this point we were out of Oregon but still on small roads in the mountains of norther california. We were descending from far up down this little dinky road. It had the windiest roads. In order to save gas I was in neutral the whole way down. I would have turned the car off and used manual brakes/steering but I didn't want to scare anyone. So the gas light turns on and we still can't see any gas stations. But luckily at the bottom of these mountains where we could catch interstate 5. At the bottom of these hills was a Marathon Gas station. It was so lit up. That could be my imagine since it was so dark where I had been driving. But we got to this gas station and it was a 24 hour station. SO thankful! They even gave me a free cup of coffee. I was on a caffeine high and drove the rest of the time to get to the redwoods.
